**This is a 6-week course. Your registration fee includes 1 class per week for 6 weeks**

[Fall Quarter / Term I] 9/9/19 – 10/20/19
[Thursdays] 6:30PM – 8:30PM

This class utilizes science as depicted in specific movies as a springboard for “mini-lessons” in science. Students will learn what films get what scientific concepts wrong – and why. Students will also learn what movies get it right – and how powerful that can be! Absolutely no prior knowledge is assumed, and the lessons will cover basic physics, astronomy, chemistry, biochemistry, and biology. While the main point will be to convey the fundamentals of science that every layperson should know, there will also be a healthy dose of nerding out about space and futurism and all that good stuff!

Description

Teacher Bio: Dave Farina

Hello, I’m Dave Farina. I have a BA in chemistry and an MA in science education. I work as a science communicator, best known for my YouTube channel “Professor Dave Explains”. Being that my job involves interfacing with the public, I am fascinated by the way the public perceives science, which is strongly influenced by films and other media. I also am quite the science fiction fan myself, so I’m very excited to teach this class, dissecting science as portrayed in film!
