Movies and television have a really important role in our lives. Whether you connect with a story that feels like your own or you are transported into the life of someone else – movies have been a loyal and memorable friend for many of us. But what makes movies so great? What can movies and television teach us about the way we communicate? Whether you are a television and movie lover or want to make them yourself, this class aims to answer these questions. You will never watch your favorite movies and tv shows the same way again!

Description

Teacher Bio: Becky Hartung

Hello! My name is Becky and I am thrilled to be teaching with Urbane Elective this term. I fell in love with rhetoric when I learned I could write all my college papers on my favorite television shows. That love turned into a passion for understanding how we impact culture and how culture impacts us through media. I earned my MA in Communication Studies from Regis University and have been lecturing on rhetoric, research, and critical thinking for the past two years. I really could talk your ear off about Hollywood, but I also like hanging out with my dogs and trying to find a good piece of carrot cake.
